The Origin of the Futhark Runestaves In determining the origin of the Futhark runes and their order it is important to go to the earliest form of the dialog of Solomon and Saturn which is in Old Saxon, rather than the later forms in Norse or Anglo Saxon. The Old Saxon dialog starts with a presentation by a person named Saturn who represents the old, superceded wisdom. Saturn presents the Ash Twigged Futhar Ura, which is the Lords Prayer where the order of the runes are determined by their occurrence in the prayer, as below. fu[th]ar ura, ku ar[th] gawuhn in hafniji, a[th] gawyhn [th]in nafn, a[th] gapyhn [th]in rika, a[th] gawyzn [th]in a[th]az, swa in hafniji, sa in gartiji, [th]a fra afra breta uram, gyfa us taglyke, ak fargyf us ura a[th]az, swa sa we fargyfa uram a[th]am, ak ne galyt us in kastniji, alk alys us af yfele, swa sa [th]in, [th]et kyni[ng]dom, [th]et myha, [th]et wara, at [th]an ayran, so[th]lyke fu[th]ar ura f u [th] a r our father ku ar[th] gawuhn in hafniji k g w h n i j who art dwelling in the heavens a[th] gawyhn [th]in nafn y let it be hallowed, thine name a[th] gapyhn [th]in rika p let it become, thine kingdom a[th] gawyzn [th]in a[th]az z let it be, thine oaths swa in hafniji s as in the heavens sa in gartiji t so also in the earth [th]a fra afra breta uram b e m the from above bread of ours gyfa us taglyke l give us daily ak fargyf us ura a[th]az and forgive us our owings swa sa we fargyfa uram a[th]am as so we forgive our owed tos ak ne galyt us in kastniji and do not bring us into trial alk alys us af yfele except free us from evil swa sa [th]in for so thine [th]et kyni[ng]dom [ng] d o the kingdom [th]et myha the potential [th]et wara the real at [th]an ayran to the ages so[th]lyke so it is |
